30/06/2020. 10". 1910 Fleischmann Tinplate Clockwork Submarine. Repair and Restoration.
This little beauty was rudderless, missing the bow stanchion and flag, busted motor with a huge hole stopped with epoxy! Having said all that she's over 100 years old. For me, restoration is about getting the thing back to as good as new and working. I brutally wire brush the hull plates, this reveals all the rust holes and takes it back to good metal I patch the holes (every single one) with copper foil and solder then sand back. The motor needed a new spring and two new teeth on the second gear. Even though her sailing days are over she sits perfectly in the water and works perfectly. Here's to her next hundred years.
